Guys,

Not so long ago we (Steff "dnoize" and me) aquired a very nice pair of complete 737-3/4/5 throttles
Since then i have completely taken the throttles apart, cleaned them up and put them back together. This wasnt that difficult at all if you have the propper tools, time and some force (on some parts)
However, i still have a few isues with the throttles, on wich i need some technical advice before i go and try anything.

- Both throttles have different forces on the reverser handles to get them in to the full reverse position. On one reverser it is nearly impossible to get it into full reverse position. How can i adjust this??
- I want to open up the throttle lever covers, so i can clean up and grease some moving parts (also parts of the reversers). But these covers are held in place by some special screws. These are coin-slot type screws. Does anyone know a alternative tool to remove the screws? because those coin-slot bits are difficult to find.
- one throttle handle is bend a bit (bought it like this). How could i straighten it back again?

On the picure you can see my old -200 throttle and the two 3/4/500 throttles

Thanks

Is that the same side that has the problem with the reverse thrust lever?  Usually the friction is set at the factory we don't normally touch any of that. I will check the manual and see if I can find something but I suspect something has seized inside that will need some lube.

Its the other lever.... (The throttle on the right side of the picture)
Nr2 throttle lever is bent. Only the the top of the lever is bent (part with the grip) and moves without proplems to full reverse.
Nr1 throttle lever is not getting in full reverse. I wont/dont use excessive force, i dont want to break anything.

I really hope its in need of some cleaning and fresh grease at a specific point.
That also why i would like to remove the lever covers and check the reverser connection.

Thanks for checking any manuals.

Having taken apart a few real throttles, my best bet is you got one of the spacers wrong.  That have to be in the correct sequence when you reassemble the main shaft that goes thru the throttle handles.  I got one shim/spacer wrong and I had the exact problem you describe!

As for the coin tool as you described.  I made a homemade one by grinding the corners off of a straight screw bit driver for that screw you are talking about.

guys,

2 out of 3 problems are solved!

Once i start awsking people for help i usualy find the awnser myself. This is excactly what hapened today...

Rob,
I manage to make a bit myself! Thanks for the advice!
luckaly i was prepared when i took apart the throttles. I made a drawing with the location of all the shims. I even used a boeing document showing all the spacers and (standard) location of the shims. I am 100% sure this isnt the problem.

Friction to the reverser handles cannot be changed inside the throttle quadrant.
Inside the throttle lever there is a mechanism using a spring (not adjustable), roller, and a wheel. This mechanism is what creates the friction/force that is needed to move the reverser into its positions. Ive attached some picures showing the mechanism.

Ive cleaned the inside of the throttle lever, polished the wheel and put wd40 on the roller (it wasnt moving freely).
This loosend everything and both throttles have the same force on the reverser levers....

All i need to fiqure out now, is how to mend the bend throttle handle. Any input is welcome.

Mike
