SSTD 737NG

Hey Guys,

My name is Ross and I'm new here. I'm currently looking to build a SSTD based on the NG I'm fed up of flying behind a desk.

I've seen Jetmax and personally i dont seem to fancy it from what i seen in the pictures.

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with FlyEngravity MIP parts.

Also are there any plug n play components out there as I'm not a fan of soldering however my brother can help me with this.

My ambition is to have a full Single Seat Captain view NG with full overhead and pedestal and obviously motorized throttle quadrant 

Software I plan to use is PROSIM.

My budget is £18,000.

As an FDS Friend, long time user and biased builder I 'll leave to other members here the privilege to help you in your decisions...   

Your budget is plenty for a single seater and you should be able to fly in no time.

With that budget you should be able to build something special. For my 2 p I would say go prosim737 I do not have it but if i could I will get it now. Interfacing with components is the best on the market I think. As for the other bits their are many I have had a few and I use Opencockpits units.I have had others and sold them due to compatibility issues with my other components so sticking to one supplier on the peripherals is a good option.

In my setup - still a construction site though - I have components of OC, Sismo, Simparts, Flight Illusion and Fly Engravity/CPFlight. For me, CPFlight components are simply the best with regard to both quality and reliabilty. Excellent service as well.

If you have the opportunity, go and visit Paolo and Claudio of CPFlight at beautiful Lake Como in Italy and look at their products, that is what I did (or wait for the next FSWeekend in Lelystad in November...). Their products work flawlessly and it is a real joy to see everything working under ProSim737.

I am sure that also FDS have top products but from the German perspective, Canada is too far away...

The only problem i have with FDS atm is the fact their shipping cost plus customs on top.

MCP/EFIS will definitely be CPFLIGHT PRO.

I'm currently looking at Opencockpits for overhead. and i'm thinking of a FSC throttle.

FlyEngravity and CPFlight are a great combination for us this side of the pond (in fact Engravity make the front panels for CPFlight). I have an Engravity MIP plus FWD & AFT OHD. CPFlight MCP/EFIS/COMMS/NAV/ADF/TX/etc/etc.

They also have the option of their ICS system, which is plug and plug, very little (if anything) to do yourself.

I also have the FSC motorised TQ and plan to use Prosim (still using the demo at present).

I also use the FDS CDU and have their shell and liner kit. BTW, FDS is a great company, great staff, excellent quality, service, etc, so you won't have any problems if you do go that route. I would recommend their CDU at the very least, it's the best on the market at the moment.

I'm just putting together a list in excel atm.

I'm very interested in the ICS plug and play stuff though cant seem to find it on their website.

I've added an extension onto my garage last year For my studio but i think I'm going to make my office rather unique by adding a SSTD.

I just want to take my flight Sim experience to the next level I'm fed up of flying behind a desk.

As nobody seems to know, please note that the JetMax SSTD 737,  including the P&P Overhead, is distributed from Germany all over Europe. No duties/paperwork/shipping from Canada, Euro VAT included, shipping from Berlin to your door.

I've decided to build a full cockpit so I'm going to be adding some more money to the pot.

I plan on starting the build in November this year as this is when all my work contracts come to an end and my customers pay up.

I'll be opening a website soon. At the moment I'm going to finish my research and get my sim room / office ready.

Hi Ross,

Looks like we're neighbours, I live in South Wales too.
My pit is in bits at the moment as we're shortly due to move, so I'm getting withdrawal symtoms. 

I used mostly Engravity panels mainly because of the cost of getting stuff from Canada. However I've also used Open Cockpits and one or two FDS panels. Electronics are also from FDS except the MCP and EFIS units which are CP Flight (the best in my opinion).

So best of luck to you and don't forget to get it flying, it's an important part of the build. Other wise it can become a chore, and the main reason that many builders never finish their projects.

My plan is to build the full Sim over a period of 5 - 7 years.

Clement I like what you have done with your sim. I have your website bookmarked and i believe i sent you a Facebook comment.

I'm currently in discussion with both Engravity and Simworld regarding their MIP.

It has been a project I have been waiting to do for a while and now that I finally have the time is great I cant wait to get buying.

After conversing with Jack and from what he has shown me of his MIP the quality is just outstanding.

So after much deliberation I've taken the position to source most of my equipment from Peter Cos of FDS.

Here is a brief overview of what i have planned so far.

I know this may sound silly to most of you but i intend on stretching my project over a period of 5 - 10 years.

Flight Simulation is something I've been so passionate about and i feel so blessed to be in this position.

18k   sterling.... why not just go a real?    you are going to get much more bang for your buck over a 5-10 year period and fully redundant at that !   you could doa 75 as opposed to a 73   most here will not agree with me on this approach...   I suggest you get hold of Tom over at UAM and chat to him directly... shipping costs are going to cancel each other out anyways.   You have simvoinics for panels over there and his are excellent ...  its way easier to wire real then simulated and the thing is over time you will end up going that route anyway buying real just forthe switching

I'll be the first to disagree with you and I couldn't disagree more! Not unless you want 10 years of headaches!!

18k will get you a really nice new plug and play replica that you can put in your house and use straight away.

Buy real and not only will you probably have to move house, but don't expect to fly for donkey's years and 18k will soon be gone in no time!

It is nice to add some real parts in a sim, 180° different from building a sim with real parts.

Interfacing real parts has become much easier and more affordable just in the past few years.  It isn't that hard but it isn't as easy as plug and play.  To each their own as the saying goes. I just like to get correct info out to people.

I have interfaced many different real parts from Boeing to GA aircraft.  It'snot that bad at all and i'm no expert at anything! LOL  Just common sense and some mechanical and limited electrical and any one can do it.   
Sorry but the Donkey years statement is incorrect and i'll leave the 'other' parties agreement alone as for known affiliations up there.

No matter what you choose,have fun doing it and take your time.
