Hello Guys/Gals,

I have an issue with my main computer, and cannot seem to solve the problem.

When I turn my computer on, the fan (not sure which) surges as if power is being applied and removed every 2 seconds, while at the same time the  HDD light is on steady, (this light will flash on and off  when the HDD is being interrogated under normal circumstances),  and the computer screen reacts as though the cable is un-plugged (nothing on the screen except the box indicating there is no video input.

This surging will continue for about 10 seconds, then stop, allowing the fan to run at a steady rpm however the computer will not boot up and the monitor remains blank.

There is no beeping noise associated with this.

There is a blue LED light associated with the fan operation, and it does not appear to fluctuate in brilliance when the computer is surging.

When I try and restart the computer, sometimes it will boot up, and sometimes it will not.

Now having said all of this, I have cycled the computer on and off about 6 times now, and it works perfectly well.

Also,, when it does boot up, there are no error messages or anything.

This problem just came up today, and I noticed the change in fan sound when I initially turned it on, which got my attention.

My computer specs are as follows;

My motherboard is an M2N-SLI deluxe motherboard..

OCZ gold XTC PC2-6400 4 GB DDR2-800
AMD athlon 64 x 2 dual core 6000+ socket AM2
PNY XLR8 9800GT 1024 video car
M2N-SLI Deluxe Motheroard
EG465p-VE power supply

I am just worried that it is the hard drive

any thoughts?

Bob Reed

This sounds more like a motherboard issue to me. Like maybe the board is grounding out on something. Have you been inside it in the last couple days?

Hello Bob,

Nope, never opened it up ever. I actually bought this unit off a friend of mine a number of years ago, he built it himself from scratch.

In fact the computer has basically sat in the same spot for at least 3 years, without me bumping it or moving it.

Try removing and re-seating the memory dimms

Sounding more like a bad board, but re seating the ram will not hurt. That has brought back many a computer!
