I don't know why you are surprised Jack. FSX is mad at you because you refused to even look at it for so many years, and now it wants nothing to do with you. ????
My advice is to skip a step and go for P3d before P3d blacklists you as well ????

By the way, I never thought I would live to the day where you would contemplate leaving FS9 ????

Cheers & Happy New Year,

:D Super to have you back (even sparingly!)
Reluctantly leaving FS9 which, with tons of add ons of textures and airports was a joy to fly without a single issue!!!

I have now all the new gizmos from FDS (MCP/CDUs) which talk directly to SimAvionics without drivers and in betweens.
To keep apples with apples, I move to SimA and P3D in order to keep everything compatible and straightforward.

This explains that, and the W7 laptop is just a utility test bed PC.

Keep us posted on your next project (..an icebreaker for navigating in winter, was'nt it ?)  :D

I just hovered here from time to time to see what troubles old timers were getting into and to justify my leaving  nut house ???? . I have to say, I have no regrets except when I see what Nat and FDS are doing these days, not that I could ever afford any of that. Very occasionally I get a twinge of regret but then I recall the aggravations I had with my sim and the peaceful feeling returns...I am free from this bondage ????.

The tugboat was just something that I thought about many moons ago when I was knee deep in fight sim. I never really thought I would attempt building a boat but with lots of time on my hands after retirement, why not?

My next project will not be an icebreaker though. I have been thinking about something more manageable like building bird houses. That should keep me out of troubles for a while.

In the meantime, while it's too frickin cold to work in the garage, I compiled some movie clips I made last Summer and posted them on YouTube. Here is a link in case you have nothing better to do and maybe you'll feel like coming over next Summer for a 'cruise' in one of our beautiful lakes in Muskoka.

Good luck with your P3d adventures. After getting rid of my big sim, I ventured into P3d with a smaller desktop sim and I gave up on that one too since P3d was just really starting and there were way too many problems at the time. No idea about the state of affairs now but I've cut the sim umbilical cord now, never to be resurrected ????

Hello Maurice,

Good to see your smiling face on the forum again  ;D

If you want a simple desktop sim to kick around the skies, then try X-Plane11 beta.   Inexpensive, and great hi-res scenery - perfect for a no-worries Sim.

Glad you are keeping busy with your boat building projects.  Here is a link to add to your fun...

Take care my friend.  I am always thankful for your help to me early on with my Sim.  I have both feet in the bucket now, and can more than appreciate your transition to calmer waters.  As it is said, "Land was created for boats to have a place to visit."  Have fun on the open seas of life...

Best Regards,
Mike

Mau!  I was just thinking about you the other day as I look at building a GA sim.

Happy to see you sticking your head in on us.

Sorry Jack. I did not want to hijack this thread by talking about my new love. But I had to set the record straight...no ice breaker in my future. ????

Thank you Mike and Warren for the nice comments. I'm truly impressed that all the old timers here are still so committed to their sims. I sometimes wish I could have stuck to it but life goes on and interests change as we get older (sometimes) :)

But let's revive Jack's original question about being unable to load FSX on a test laptop. There must be a simple answer somewhere. My guess would be that FSX thinks it sees evidence of an earlier install (maybe one that did not complete) and therefore wants to uninstall it before re-installing. I have seen this with my video editing program which uninstalled itself when I was just trying to re-install it to try and fix some issues. But as I said, just a guess on my part :)

Cheerios,

Mau
That could very well be the case as I had it installed before.
Will check.
Your Video is a jewel !!
..and the intro is too much!  :D
A must have !!
Cheers and keep in touch.
